UPDATES

I have implemented a new, more simplified theme to downplay the minor performance issues when roaming the site. I will also be adding much more content soon, more site announcements will be made as we approach Cataclysm’s arrival, so bear with us. ;)

P.S I will be giving the forums an overhaul in light of Cataclysms release too!

World of Warcraft’s New Login Theme

A very emotional piece for any Warcraft fan. It brings back a lot of the old themes with a darker feel, and half way through it even begins playing “Invincible”, probably to remind us of Arthas not being able to help with the Cataclysm and that were all fucked. Until the patch they’ll nerf Deathwing and add welfare epics for casuals that is.

A lot of the old heroes of WC3 and before are beginning to die or becoming weaker now, so it’s kinda trying to push the idea of the age of new heroes (Us). Oh and Neltharion tore the continents up pretty bad.

Street Fighter X Tekken Announced

Street Fighter vs. Tekken image #13

A 2D fighter and a 3D fighter meshed into one? Eternal rivals in the fighting games industry working together? FIREBALLS VS JUGGLES?

Well this definitely surprised me, considering they’re still hard at work with the MVC threequel. It seems Capcom are releasing (fighting) games out like there is no tomorrow.

This will be interesting no doubt, I suspect it’ll go for the 2D/flat landscape conflicts to ease the pain of projectile play, otherwise it will suck.

EDIT: Heres a video with gameplay footage, and yep it’s using the SFIV engine, the right decision if I am honest.

And here’s the press release:

“SAN DIEGO, CA — July 24, 2010 — Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games today announced that Street Fighter X Tekken is in development for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The title will make history as fighters from these two bastions of the fighting genre come together for the very first time.

Utilizing the same technology that powered Street Fighter IV & Super Street Fighter IV, Tekken characters such as Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams will make the transition into the Street Fighter universe having been re-imagined using the much-loved art style of these seminal titles; while retaining their unique characteristics and signature moves as they go head-to-head with classic brawlers from the Street Fighter franchise in what promises to be the ultimate match up.

As in Street Fighter IV, 2D gameplay will feature fully realized 3D character models battling for domination in both new and familiar highly detailed environments that are brought to life with engaging animations. In addition to modes such as Versus and Training that will feature new enhancements to make the fighting experience more in-depth and enjoyable, Street Fighter X Tekken will include Tag Team combat where players select two fighters to deliver knockout assist attacks and special combos.

The announcement, which took place at Comic-Con in San Diego in front of thousands of Street Fighter fans, was made by the Producer of Street Fighter X Tekken, Yoshinori Ono, and Tekken series Director, Katsuhiro Harada. Commenting on the origins of this project Yoshinori Ono said: “This is history we’re making. Two fighting games that have rivaled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn’t just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I’m going to give it my all.”

One Piece Opening 13

I feel obligated to post this. Beware, lots of spoilers ahead!

Sure it’s not that amazing, but One Piece rarely gets the sedate-esque/calming introductions, most of the antecedent openings were offshoots of multi-textured pop songs with insanely merry and bombastic vibes to them.

Shame they are still too long though.

Heart no Kuni no Alice/Alice in the Country of Hearts: A Manga Impression

Heart no Kuni no Alice ~ Wonderful Wonder World ~
Authors: Hoshino, Soumei (Art)

Synopsis
The girly but bloody otome game re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic fantasy novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with bishōnen characters and added romance.

A parody of Alice`s Adventures in Wonderland where Alice is smart and non-doormatlike.

In this story, Alice is not all what she seems. She is practical, strong, yet an cynical person. Instead of the tradition story, Alice is kidnapped unwillingly by a mysterious (yet somewhat bishie-looking) man with bunny ears into a place call Heartland. Stuck in Heartland due to a trick by the mysterious bunny eared man, she meets the residents of this world. Along the way, Alice meets Blood, handsome mafia leader; Ace, the psycho yet charming knight and more…What should Alice do in such a world!?

Personal Opinions

Personally I can’t get enough of this manga, then again I am a fan of re-imagining fairy tales, especially Alice in Wonderland, so this was a must read for me.
By the way this manga has virtually nothing to do with the plot of the original Lewis Carroll story, other than the fact that Alice follows a White Rabbit down a hole into what appears to be a dream world created by herself. The similarities in plot end here.
However I will warn all the boys now that this manga is a reverse harem, but a bit more bloody, violent and psychotic than the soft touch pretty boys we’re all used to after the one girl.

The character design is simply gorgeous with a cross between the original Lewis Carroll style but with added gothic and steam punk touches. The backgrounds aren’t much to talk about really, but the vibrancy of the characters, story and design make up for this superbly.

I’ve currently read 3 volumes of it in around a night and a half. This manga will not be for everyone of course, but it’s well worth a look.

Anime Impressions: Shiki

Another of the summer season anime (Made up mainly of disappointment and cruelty), Occult Academy and Shiki shine through the clouded sky and actually bring some damn fine entertainment for the season. There are some minor spoilers coming.

Shiki is based around a small town of people living peacefully, many of the residents are elderly people (Wahey, well the majority of Japan is filled with the elderly). A mysterious string of deaths occur that send the town into an epidemic, and here we have it, a horror anime about vampires. Not the gay Hollywood superhero vampires either, these are traditional, terrifying vampires.

The anime so far (2 episodes) is moving slowly but purposefully. I can praise the artwork for being very unique and the atmosphere for being pretty spot on for a horror with a hint of Higurashi. The character designs themselves are odd to say the least, I don’t really understand it personally but it does have a sense of individuality to it instead of reusing everybody elses ideas.

It is creepy. Definitely a lot to go through your mind, the pacing is relatively fast with days going by quickly. Also, I like that the towns people actually have a sense of desperation and seem genuinely frightened of the events taking place, while keeping a sense of uncertainty because nobody actually knows what is going on (So far, it is just people dying without any sort of signs apart from what the doctor thought was iron deficiency anemia).

One to watch this summer. Anyone who likes gothic horror will love this.

Summer Season Impressions 2010

http://www.playergame.fr/boutiquepg/images/high-school-of-the-dead-pika-2.jpg

Highschool of the Dead

Zombie apocalypse, not really sure whats going on. Everything is cute but then everything is dark too. It is a bad mix, and I can’t see it being a good anime, but I will stick with it and hold judgement until then. The first episode was constant action and some girls skirt flipped up when she was being eaten, telling me that Madhouse are sick and twisted people. Blood flows in almost all frames and boobs wobble around the others. The show has a big cult following, probably the worst I’ve seen.

Good points: Enjoyable, visually stunning and incredibly well animated. Finally, zombies are killing moe.
Bad points: Overdone fanservice, characters are almost superhuman in strength and agility (So much for a survival thriller), no visible plot.

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi

A comedy from the same studio who brought us Railgun. I enjoyed this one, it had some very amuzing dialogue from the narrator who is the voice behind Kuroko – our crazy rapist lesbian from Railgun. It parodies fairy tales like Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and a couple more. Most of the humor was dumb or slapstick, and most I didn’t understand because I’m not a moefag, but it was still good fun to watch and I’ll be sticking with it. Moderate fanservice but nothing more than the usual.

Good points: Enjoyable again, would be nice if you enjoyed the fairy tales too. Lots of famous voice actors and moe characters for you horny people.
Bad points: Aimed at the otaku niche and of course, most of the humor is based around girls doing things girls don’t do because horny guys like it.

Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin

Probably the best one to me. It seemed fairly unique and I was expecting it to be really serious, but it ended up being quite a comedy. The story was pretty obvious from the start, time travelling of some sort, but we don’t know why. Some demons and other otherworldly things and a bit of drama. Definitely sticking with this one unless it goes downhill.

Good points: A plot in plain sight, some adult and some immature humor mixed well meaning you don’t feel lost, interesting protagonist.
Bad points: Still not entirely sure what happened.

Amagami SS

Every season needs a harem or ten. This one stood out a little because of its unique art style focusing on more detailed character design probably influenced from Love Plus type shit. Considering MAL doesn’t label this as a comedy, I found it had some Clannad-esque comedy that popped up frequently. Lots of drama and romance stuff, and a very sick protagonist picturing his sister naked in the shower with another girl. Will stick with it until it sickens me with romance.

Good points: Clear plot, some of the characters seemed quite unique. Some good comedy moments and some good drama moments.
Bad points: SOME of the characters seemed unique, the rest were the same reused generic bunch of fragile girls that can’t protect themselves from themselves. Slow paced too, but it can’t be called a bad thing really.

Lack of heart…

Sorry for not posting much these days.

I have no motivation to write or do anything as of late. Summer is genuinely a dry, lukewarm season for all, especially in the entertainment department (bar outdoor festivities of course). However not all of it has gone to dissipation…

The long absence has allowed me to venture further and broaden my creative pursuits, learn about more shit and whatnot and consider my posterities, even when no jest is to be found, but hopefully I’ll put the knowledge I’ve gathered to some use some day.

Is this the finale of a saga full of  shortcomings, or potentially a new beginning? I have dispelled most of the jovial enthusiasm I once had for this site, but that little glimmer of contention begs me to continue; what for? I honestly don’t know, maybe it’s just a curiosity to what I could achieve if I expend more time in refining my beloved sanctum that I once cherished so much- or maybe I’m just an addict…

Any-ways more to come in the future!
